The Chicago Bears' penalty on Sunday was strange

NFL penalties like pass interference, offsides, and false starts are rather common. On Sunday, the Chicago Bears lost a field goal against the San Francisco 49ers due to a penalty.

Both sides had to be inventive to cope with the drenched field throughout the game. Before trying a long field goal in the second quarter, holder Trenton Gill pulled out a towel to dry up the field.

For breaking the rules by taking a towel onto the field, Gill was given a warning for unsportsmanlike conduct.

After carrying a towel onto the field prior to a field goal attempt, Bears holder Trenton Gill was given a warning for unsportsmanlike conduct.

The Bears had to punt from inside field goal range because of the 15-yard penalty.

Despite the fine, the Bears prevailed 19-10. The fine was unusual and costly.
