Vmware for Windows 10: Install Windows 10 in VMware Workstation

Brief: Installing Vmware for Windows 10 is quick & easy. This quick tutorial shows you how to install Windows 10 in VMware workstation

We all know Microsoft’s new Operating System is consistently gaining a lot of and a lot of attention everywhere in the media. But Hey, should you upgrade your current windows to Windows 10?

Generally, it’s best to find out for yourself. If you don’t have a spare computer to try the latest Windows 10 on, here’s a guide on – How to Install Windows 10 in VMware Workstation

Note: VMware products are more geared toward business, but you do get a 30 free trial for VMware Workstation and it’s intuitive which makes setting up a VM very easy. There are lots of pirated versions of VMware available on the internet but if you want vmware for windows 10, then I would suggest you – use the trial versions and keep your pc & data secure.

Before proceeding further, I assume that you have these requirements:

  • Installed & Working VMware workstation (I’m using Workstation 11)
  • Installation media of Windows 10 i.e Iso image file or DVD

I’ll quickly show you the 3 Steps procedure you need to follow right away!

Step 1: Set up a VMware Virtual Machine

Start by opening VMware and selecting “Create a New Virtual Machine”

As I have mentioned that it’s a quick tutorial, so I would go with Typical Option to save time.

If you want to tweak the parameters then you can go with the Custom i.e Advanced option. Select your preferred option then click on the Next button.

Now, you will need to show VMWare the path to your Windows 10 ISO file. If you don’t have one, then you can get one.

I have provided a download link at bottom of this tutorial in the Bonus Section.

Generally, VMware detects the OS from the ISO file provided. In case, if VMware doesn’t automatically detect the OS from the ISO file, you’ll need to manually select the OS.

You’ll have the option to pick between 32 and 64-bit versions of Windows OS.

Useful Tip: If your pc doesn’t have a lot of RAM and CPU to spare, then go with the 32-bit variant. Not only it will allow you to use Windows 10 in VMware but it will perform smoothly so that you can enjoy both the OS.

Now, choose a name for your Virtual Machine as well as a location where it will be stored.

I’m naming it as Windows 10 & keeping the default patch. You can choose and customize both the options.

Next up is creating your virtual disk. The advised maximum limit is 60 GB, which is okay to perfect.

I advise you to stay with the “Split virtual disk into multiple files” option, otherwise, VMware will immediately allocate the space on your hard drive which I don’t recommend.

Step 2: Customizing the Virtual Machine Hardware

I clear that this option is Optional. If you want to tweak the defaults, you can customize the hardware that your VM will use.

I’ll go ahead, click on Customize Hardware and do this to show you some of the options which you can change, but if you’re okay with the VMware defaults you can go ahead and select “Finish”.It’s truly Optional.

Selecting the Memory option, I can increase or decrease the available RAM for this VM. I’ll go for 2GB instead of the default 1GB as I want my Windows 10 to perform better.

I’ll also give my VM some extra CPU power by allowing it to use two cores instead of one core. If your pc has 8 cores than you can allot more cores.

You can customize it more if you want. After you’re done with tweaking the hardware you can close the windows tab and click “Finish” on the New VM Wizard.
